What Is a Leverless Controller?
A leverless controller replaces the lever on a traditional arcade controller (arcade stick) with buttons. All directional inputs (up, down, left, and right) are also made with buttons. It allows for precise fingertip control and is popular with players who want fast, accurate inputs.

What to Look For in a Leverless Controller
Here are the basics for choosing well, from compatible systems to button feel. There are several important points to consider when choosing a leverless controller. Find the right one for your play style and setup.
- Compatible systemsFirst, check whether it is compatible with the system you want to use, such as PlayStation 5, PC, or Nintendo Switch2.
- Button layout and sizeThe placement and size of the directional and attack buttons vary by product. The placement of extra buttons in particular can greatly affect the control feel, so refer to reviews and choose one that suits you. It is also a good idea to check the button size and spacing based on your hand size and finger length.
- Button type and feelThe type of button switch affects how it feels when pressed (such as the force required and travel depth). Choose according to your preferences, such as switches designed for quieter operation or switches that respond to a light touch. Models that support hot-swapping also let you replace the switches later.
- Controller size, weight, and stabilityChoose an appropriate size and weight based on your play environment (such as on a desk or on your lap) and how often you carry it. It is also important to check whether the bottom has nonslip material and whether the controller has enough weight to stay stable during use.
- CustomizationSome models let you replace the top panel design or change button assignments. If you want to customize the controller to your liking, check for these features as well.
What to Watch for When Choosing a Budget Leverless Controller
Choosing based on low price alone may lead to regret. Here are the points you should check in particular.Budget leverless controllers are an appealing option for players who want to keep their initial investment down. However, you should understand that a low price may mean some quality or features have been sacrificed to reduce manufacturing costs. To avoid regret, pay particular attention to the following points.
- Whether it has button framesSome budget models do not have frames around the buttons. Without button frames, your finger or nail directly touches the edge of the button hole when you press the edge of a button. This means your finger or nail could catch, which may lead to an unexpected injury. Cases of nails actually breaking have also been reported, so for safety, it is wiser to choose a model with button frames. If you choose a model without frames, consider measures such as wearing finger cots.
-
Key switch type and hot-swap supportKey switches are very important parts that affect how buttons feel to press and their response speed.
- Usability: In general, switches with a lighter key weight and a shallower actuation point (the depth at which the switch responds) respond faster and require less force, so they are considered less tiring during long play sessions. However, this is only a general tendency, and personal preference has a significant effect on how heavy a key feels and how it feels to press. Some people may find heavier keys less prone to accidental activation or prefer a firm press feel.
- Hot-swap support: Preferences for switches can be hard to know until you try them, so whether the controller supports “hot-swapping,” which lets you easily replace key switches, is an important point to check. With a hot-swap compatible model, you can replace the switches with ones you prefer after purchase and customize the control feel.
- Acrylic edge finishing (chamfering)Many models use acrylic, but especially in less expensive products, the edges of the acrylic panels may not be finished carefully to reduce costs. Specifically, the cut acrylic edges may be left sharp without chamfering (a process that smooths the corners). With a controller like this, you may cut your hand on the sharp edges when holding it or playing with it on your lap. Before buying, check product images and reviews to see whether the edges are carefully finished.
-
Controller materials and rigidityThe controller's materials and construction are also areas where models can differ. In particular, models made by simply stacking thin acrylic panels or using low-strength plastic may have the following problems.
- Creaking or flexing: The controller may creak or the top panel may flex when you apply force during use. This can impair the control feel and also raise concerns about the controller's durability.
- Lack of stability: A lightweight controller is convenient to carry, but if it is too light, it may move during use and make stable play difficult.

- Supports hot swapping and is compatible with multiple platforms: PC / PS4 / PS5 / Switch
RecommendedReasons to Recommend
The D16's greatest appeal is its exclusive premium nylon buttons from TIKITAKA. They have a smooth, dry feel while resisting slips, and they are also resistant to hand sweat. This one-of-a-kind material, unlike those from other companies, does not lose its grip even when wet with water. With all models now heavily discounted in the Amazon sale, it can confidently be called the most cost-effective leverless controller. You can choose from 3 switch types: Panda switch V1 (quiet), V2 (fast), and 霞軸 switch (ultra-fast). The frame version is especially recommended; its sides are covered by a frame, substantially increasing the chassis rigidity. Combining the handling of nylon buttons with the rigidity of a frame, this is a unit we can confidently recommend both as a first leverless controller and as an upgrade.
CautionNotes and Other Information
The PS5-compatible version is required to play on PS5. The button spacing is somewhat narrow, so people with larger hands may find it cramped. The sale's end date is not stated, so it is unclear whether the sale price will continue.
Review: One-of-a-kind nylon buttons in a high-value slim leverless controller available at a sale price
When discussing TIKITAKA's D Series D16, the first thing to mention is its exclusive nylon buttons. The premium nylon buttons included with the Deluxe version have a distinctive texture that feels smooth and dry while keeping your fingers from slipping. Their grip does not diminish when your hands sweat or even when the buttons get wet with water. For players concerned about hand sweat during long matches, this is a one-of-a-kind strength not found in products from other companies.
All models are currently heavily discounted in the Amazon sale. Getting these nylon buttons and a full set of specs for a price starting at 8,980 yen is an exceptional deal. There are also 3 switch options. Panda switch V1 has an actuation point of 1.2mm and an actuation force of 30gf, with excellent quietness, making it ideal for a first leverless controller. Panda switch V2 has an ultra-short-travel design with an actuation point of 0.8mm, suited to those seeking another level of speed. 霞軸 switch offers ultra-fast specs with a 0.5mm actuation point, meeting the needs of players who want to pursue the utmost in response speed. All are hot-swappable, so you can change the switches later.
The frame version (D16B-F) is especially recommended. Its sides are covered by a frame, substantially increasing the rigidity of the entire chassis. It does not flex or feel unstable during use, and combined with the steady handling of the nylon buttons, it lets you focus on playing with confidence.
The slim, lightweight body is 12mm thick and weighs 900g, making it convenient to carry. It also features LED lighting and a screen, so there is almost nothing lacking in terms of features at this price range. With its one-of-a-kind nylon buttons, the D16 is a model worth considering while the sale is on.

FeaturesMain features
- Uses Gateron “霞軸” key switches for fast input
- Outstanding value for money, available for less than 1 ten-thousand yen
- Easily switch connection modes and SOCD modes on the controller itself
- A slim, portable design and a rigid build that provides stable operation
- The top plate can be customized to create a design to suit your taste
RecommendedReasons to recommend
The greatest appeal is the extremely light key feel of the “霞軸” switches. They are ideal for players seeking a fast response. Since modes can be switched on the controller itself, there is no need to connect it to a computer to change settings—a major advantage. It also comes with a large non-slip pad, allowing stable play despite its slim profile. With the potential to work as both an entry-level and a main controller, it is a good choice for a wide range of users.
CautionNotes and other details
It supports hot-swapping and can also use Kailh key switches. However, it is designed to fit the 霞軸 switches, so the height will not match exactly. Keep this in mind if you are considering replacing the key switches.
Review: A ready-to-play leverless controller that stands out by more than a head in the budget segment
The greatest appeal of the “VSNOVA N14” is its Gateron “霞軸” key switches. With an exceptionally short specification of 0.5mm actuation point and 1.5mm total travel, they deliver excellent operability. Their light touch and instant response provide a major advantage in fighting games that demand precise inputs.
Many products generally come with low-performance key switches as standard and take the stance, “If you want better operability, buy and replace the switches separately.” Having high-performance switches installed from the start is a major strength.
The button layout is neither too wide nor too narrow, with a standard, uncomplicated arrangement that makes it very easy to use. This is another factor that raises the rating of this controller.
It is also well equipped with features such as a large non-slip pad and mode switches on the controller itself. The body uses thick acrylic, so it has virtually none of the creaking or flexing common in slim leverless controllers. Even so, the PC version costs less than 1 ten-thousand yen, making its value for money truly remarkable. If you are unsure which one to choose, we recommend starting with the “VSNOVA N14.”
It is also the only model with a PS5-compatible version priced below 15,000 yen. It is a strong option if you are looking for a PS5-compatible model.

FeaturesMain features
- Split layout gives both hands plenty of room to move comfortably
- Uses Gateron “霞軸” key switches for fast input
- Outstanding value, available at prices under 1 ten-thousand yen
- Slim design that is easy to carry, with a rigid build for stable operation
- Easily switch connection modes and SOCD modes on the controller itself
RecommendedWhy we recommend it
It uses a split layout that lets you sit comfortably with your hands spaced apart, and adds buttons you can operate with your thumbs. Like the N14, it is appealing for its light key touch from the 霞軸 switches and its extensive features. In particular, its button layout, made possible by the split layout, delivers what could be considered ideal ergonomics.
CautionPoints to note and other details
It supports hot swapping and can also use Kailh key switches. However, because it is designed to fit the 霞軸 switches, the height will not match exactly, so keep this in mind if you are considering replacing the switches.
Review: A masterpiece with an innovative button layout that could mark a turning point for leverless controllers
Following 1st place, VSNOVA also takes 2nd place, leaving no doubt that this model outclasses the others by that much. The biggest feature of the “VSNOVA N17SP” is its split layout, which gives both hands plenty of room.
Conventional layouts put the buttons closer to the center so you can press the jump button with your right hand, which inevitably makes the space between your hands narrow and cramped. With this model, you do not press jump with your right hand; instead, it adds buttons you can press with your right thumb, which has the fastest reaction speed. This idea makes a big difference to how it feels to use.
Advantages of pressing jump with your right hand include “performing a Shoryuken quickly with a simplified command” and “entering an aerial strike quickly.” In practice, however, the difference is only a few frames, and it is quite rare for a simplified command to be just fast enough to make an anti-air in time. So perhaps the conventional standard layout was not necessarily ideal: for this small benefit, it forced users into a cramped position and limited the freedom of the right thumb.
Seen this way, the split layout adopted by the “N17SP” is an innovative step with the potential to become the mainstream layout for future leverless controllers. It is also a model we can strongly recommend to anyone looking to get started with a leverless controller.
It also carries over the advantages that were well received on the N14: the highly responsive “霞軸” key switches, onboard mode switching, large non-slip pads, and excellent value. Its high level of refinement, combining comfort and practicality, truly deserves to be called a masterpiece.
Even so, it ranks 2nd because the standard layout is still more common, and many users may find it easier to accept. However, as a recommendation, this “N17SP” ranks above the N14. It could become a new standard for leverless controllers in the future.

FeaturesMain features
- Frame construction offers high rigidity and reduces weight
- Magnetically detachable panel allows you to customize the top panel artwork
- Gently sloped design helps reduce wrist fatigue
- Equipped with a tournament lock switch to prevent accidental operation
- Hot-swap compatible (compatible with Kailh low-profile switches)
RecommendedReasons to recommend
Its appeal lies in the rigidity of the housing, which combines a metal base plate with a plastic exterior, and its sloped design that feels natural in the hand. Revising the button layout and the positions of added buttons also improves operability. The top panel is easy to customize, making this ideal for anyone who wants to express their individuality.
CautionPoints to note and other information
The standard Wind Engine is quiet but has a relatively long travel. If you want a quicker response, replacing it with Kailh Saker or Shadow Hunting, for example, is recommended. Note that the LED rings around the buttons are decorative and are not frames designed to prevent your fingers from catching.
Review: Improved rigidity and operability! Customization is another appeal
With the aim of moving away from the conventional stacked acrylic construction, the adoption of a frame structure has greatly improved stability during operation. The gentle slope at the front is also designed to make it easy to rest your hands naturally.
The button layout has also improved from previous Haute42 series models, evolving toward a layout closer to that of typical leverless controllers. The button on the lower right, which was somewhat difficult to press before, has been moved to a position where it can be pressed naturally, improving operability.
The standard "Wind Engine" key switches use POM material, and their very quiet keystroke sound is appealing. However, because their travel is somewhat long, players who prioritize operability or response speed are advised to replace them with short-travel switches.
The acrylic top panel is designed to be easy to remove, so you can readily customize it with your own original design. LED light rings around the buttons are also included as decoration, adding a visual accent. However, these are purely a design element, and you should not expect them to provide a clear function as button frames.
When sales first began, it was sold for around 15,000 yen, but prices have now settled and its value for money is good. It is the most recommendable model among Haute42 products.
A split-layout version called "C16-S" also appeared, following the N17SP, but its awkward layout does not make full use of the advantages of a split layout, so it is not highly recommended. If choosing one, we recommend the conventional "C16".
Overall, this is a well-developed product that shows clear improvements in rigidity, operability, and customizability.

FeaturesMain features
- Wireless connection (built-in battery) for comfortable cable-free play
- Tempered glass faceplate that resists dirt and fingerprints
- Magnetic folding feet allow 2 levels of angle adjustment
- Hot-swappable (compatible with Kailh low-profile switches)
- Slim, compact design about the size of an A4 sheet (approximately 1.6cm thick)
RecommendedReasons to recommend
It has a built-in lithium-ion battery that allows approximately 20 hours of continuous use. In addition to its slim and lightweight design, it combines a quality feel with practicality through features such as a tempered glass top and metal tilt feet. Its hot-swap support is also appealing, allowing you to easily replace the switches with ones you prefer.
CautionPoints to note and other information
The standard Kailh Wizard switches have a pronounced character and may divide opinion. With a somewhat heavy 50gf actuation force and a pronounced clicky feel and sound, they are likely to feel unsuitable for delicate inputs in fighting games. If the feel is uncomfortable, we recommend considering a switch to lighter linear switches or similar instead of forcing yourself to get used to them.
Review: A superb case and key switches so questionable they need replacing
Introduced as 8BitDo's first leverless controller, this model stands out for its wireless connectivity. In particular, the 2.4GHz connection lets you play comfortably with no latency. However, the Bluetooth connection clearly had noticeable latency. Its quality is also excellent, with features such as a tempered glass top, full-surface anti-slip material, and metal tilt feet. Its price is also kept low despite having a battery.
The frame is made of plastic, and the top uses fingerprint-resistant tempered glass. With anti-slip material across the entire back and retractable tilt feet, the design considers usability down to the smallest details. The magnetic tilt feet in particular provide a comfortable angle and are very easy to use.
On the other hand, the standard key switches have significant drawbacks. They are heavy, clicky switches with a 50gf actuation force, and they make a loud sound when pressed. After pressing once, you have to apply force again, which feels very strange. Choosing clicky switches may be an idea that comes naturally to a manufacturer whose main product is gamepads, but as a leverless controller, it has to be called a poor choice. Of course, preferences vary, but probably not that many people will like these switches. The oval buttons are also in easy-to-reach positions and very convenient, but because they have a spring at the edge, they are even heavier and quite difficult to press.
However, this drawback can be overcome because the model supports hot-swapping. Replacing the switches with various Kailh low-profile switches lets you get the feel you prefer. Replacing the key switches could be called “essential,” not just “recommended.” If you want a lighter feel, Panda switches V1 are an option; if you prefer a shallower actuation point, consider Panda switches V2 or Saker mini. Saker mini is somewhat shorter, so personally, I found Panda switches V2 to have a good balance.
Although replacing the key switches is a prerequisite, this is a highly refined leverless controller that I can recommend.

FeaturesMain features
- Gateron 霞軸 key switches enable high-speed input
- Outstanding value for money through extensive cost cutting
- RGB LED lighting lets you enjoy a wide range of effects
- Slim design that's easy to carry
RecommendedReasons to recommend
Extensive cost cutting delivers outstanding value for money. A major appeal is that it can be purchased for under 9,000 yen during sales. It also features 霞軸 switches, known for their high responsiveness and light touch, which enable fast input.
CautionPoints to note and other information
Some aspects of quality have been sacrificed to achieve the low price. In particular, there have been repeated reports that the function keys "break quickly," so this is something to keep in mind.
Review: Outstanding value makes it ideal for getting started with leverless controllers
Made by Kylinix, a brand in the same TIKITAKA series as VSNOVA, this product delivers outstanding value through extensive cost cutting. A major appeal is that it comes equipped by default with Gateron 霞軸 key switches; being able to enjoy their light touch and fast input in a low price range is exceptionally rare.
On the other hand, the low price means some concerns remain about quality. There are many reports that the function keys are prone to breaking, and the buttons are made from inexpensive ABS. The included accessories are also limited to the essentials, and the effects of cost cutting can be seen throughout.
However, buttons have been added above the movement keys, making WASD input possible—a unique layout not found elsewhere. Despite being a cost-cutting model, it also includes an OLED screen and LED lights, so it doesn't feel lacking in features.
The price fluctuates frequently between 8,999 yen and 11,980 yen, and seems to rise and fall regardless of Amazon sales. We recommend waiting for the price to drop instead of buying when it's high.
Overall, its outstanding value at under 9,000 yen is unparalleled, making it an ideal choice for anyone who wants to try a leverless controller for the first time.

FeaturesMain features
- Leverless controller made by Japanese manufacturer HORI
- Equipped with Kailh Speed Silver (actuation point 1.1mm・total travel 2.2mm)
- 12 top-panel buttons + 3 removable expansion buttons
- Equipped with button assignment and cable lock functions
- Equipped with an external headset output jack
RecommendedReasons to recommend
The switches installed by default have a relatively shallow actuation point, so a quick, responsive feel can be expected. This is a product from Japanese manufacturer HORI.
CautionPoints to note and other information
Hot-swap support is limited to expansion buttons 1~3; the key switches for the main buttons cannot be replaced. Therefore, if a main button fails, contact the support desk of the seller you purchased it from. There have also been reports that the top panel gets dirty easily and that dirt is noticeable.
Review: If only it had arrived a little sooner…
As products from emerging Chinese manufacturers sweep the market, this model, from a long-established Japanese manufacturer, was met with high expectations. Still, it is hard to deny that it feels somewhat disappointing.
The default key switches have an actuation point of 1.1mm and travel of 2.2mm, which is relatively short for this price range. However, with the arrival of options with even shorter travel, such as the VSNOVA with 霞軸 as standard and newer-generation switches like Kailh's Saker Mini, this model inevitably looks less impressive.
In addition, the lack of a button frame and, above all, the fact that the main buttons are not hot-swappable are significant drawbacks. Switches cannot be replaced except for expansion buttons 1~3, so if a switch fails, you need to contact the support desk of the seller you purchased it from, making maintenance inconvenient.
The pace of evolution in leverless controllers is extremely fast, and it is hard to deny that this model has fallen a step or two behind. Had it appeared a little sooner, it could have been introduced as a “recommended product”; it is a real shame.
Warranty and repair terms vary by sales region and seller. HPC-082 at the linked page is a model for sale in Japan, and the manufacturer states that it is sold only in Japan. HORI's repair desk in Japan does not accept products purchased outside Japan or repair requests with an overseas return address. The 1-year free repair service for products sold in Japan is not automatically promised for orders shipped overseas. Rights to repairs, replacements, returns, refunds, and other remedies under applicable law are not limited. It also has features such as a cable lock, key lock function, and headphone jack.
This is an option for those who want to choose a product from a Japanese manufacturer for their fighting game debut. Check the sales region and supported platforms for the model you are purchasing, as well as the warranty and support terms of the seller.

FeaturesMain Features
- Full-aluminum body made of durable aluminum alloy
- Achieves fast input with buttons equipped with 霞軸 switches that are light to press and responsive
- Unique button layout (adds a 24mm button to the bottom row to make use of the left thumb; positioned to minimize interference when not in use)
- High expandability thanks to approximately 40mm of internal height (nearly all commercially available buttons can be replaced)
RecommendedRecommended Points
In addition to the high durability of its robust aluminum body, the FeatherTap buttons equipped with 霞軸 switches provide a light, responsive feel. It also offers the flexibility to customize to your preferences, with expandability that allows replacement with nearly all commercially available buttons.
CautionPoints to Note and Other Information
Because it has a full-aluminum enclosure, it is heavy at approximately 1.8kg, and its thickness also makes it somewhat unsuitable for carrying. In addition, the bottom cover is secured with screws, so tools are required for internal maintenance or parts replacement.
Review: A full-aluminum box-style leverless controller with high durability and expandability
This unit has a robust full-aluminum body that offers durability to withstand minor impacts. Its buttons use “FeatherTap” equipped with 霞軸 switches, with a light, responsive feel as a key feature.
The buttons support hot swapping, and their internal key switches can be replaced with Kailh and Gateron key switches. In addition, the internal height is approximately 40mm, allowing compatibility with nearly all commercially available buttons and providing outstanding expandability even compared with slim leverless controllers where only the key switches can be replaced. The flexibility to customize it to your preferences is a major appeal.
On the other hand, many issues around the screws have been reported, including durability concerns such as screw heads coming off. The bottom cover is also secured with screws, so tools are essential for maintenance or button replacement. As more models that can be easily opened and closed with magnets have become available, this may feel somewhat inconvenient.
Even so, it offers the distinctive appeal of a box-style model that combines high rigidity with customizability, making it a strong option for players who prioritize durability or want to pursue their own custom setup. It is also worth noting that, among box-style models, many of which are expensive, this unit offers outstanding value for money.

FeaturesMain features
- Nylon button caps that resist slipping and sweaty hands
- High-quality acrylic case with carefully chamfered edges
- Hot-swap compatible (Kailh Low Profile compatible; Choc V1 only)
RecommendedWhy we recommend it
The nylon button caps are a distinctive feature, helping even players whose hands tend to get sweaty maintain a steady grip. The acrylic case is also high quality and carefully finished, making this one of the best-quality options in the budget range.
CautionPoints to note and other details
The biggest drawback is the standard Kailh Choc V1 key switches. With an actuation force of 50gf, an actuation point of 1.5mm, and total travel of 3.0mm, they are heavier and have longer travel than other switches, which may result in less responsive operation. Although hot swapping is supported, only Kailh Choc V1-type switches can be used, leaving very limited options for replacement switches.
Review: Nylon buttons resist sweaty hands, but consider the switches carefully
The most unique feature of the TIKITAKA T16 is its nylon button caps. Their rough surface is a major advantage because it helps prevent slipping even when your hands get sweaty. Even after we actually wet them, the grip hardly changed, which should be reassuring for players whose hands sweat. The acrylic is also high quality, and the edges are carefully chamfered, so the overall build quality is high.
Unfortunately, the key switches are a major weakness. The standard Kailh Choc V1 switches have an actuation force of 50gf, an actuation point of 1.5mm, and total travel of 3.0mm, making them quite heavy with long travel by recent standards. This may make them feel heavy to use and could make them unsuitable for fast inputs.
Hot swapping is supported, but because the keycap shape is a 2-pin type, replacements are limited to the same Kailh Choc V1 type, leaving very few options.
This goes a little beyond our introduction to low-cost leverless controllers, but TIKITAKA also sells a “Deluxe version” with Gateron 霞軸 switches. If you are interested in nylon buttons, that may also be a good option.

FeaturesMain Features
- Slim, lightweight design (approx. 580g) makes it easy to carry
- Equipped with a button frame to prevent fingers from catching
- Hot-swappable (compatible with Kailh low-profile switches)
- The included template lets you change the top panel artwork
RecommendedWhy We Recommend It
Its exceptionally slim and lightweight build is its biggest feature. Adding a button frame resolves the acrylic edge issue that was a weakness of the company's previous models, making it easier to handle. Since it supports hot swap, you can replace the default key switches later with switches to your liking if you are dissatisfied with them, which is a major benefit.
CautionPoints to Note and Other Information
The default Kailh Choc V2 Crystal switches have a somewhat long total travel of 3.2mm. If you prefer shorter travel, you may want to consider replacing them with other low-profile switches, such as Kailh Shadow Hunting. Also, because it is very lightweight, you may find it somewhat unstable when using it on your lap. If needed, measures such as adding a commercially available anti-slip sheet can also help.
Review: An ambitious design that pursues a slim, lightweight build and overcomes its shortcomings
For better or worse, this model can be seen as the culmination of the same manufacturer's slim leverless controllers. Previous models had an issue with sharp, potentially dangerous acrylic edges that had not been chamfered, but the U16 resolves this shortcoming by adding a frame around the body.
However, the standard key switches (Kailh Choc V2 Crystal) have a long total travel of 3.2mm, which can leave the operation feeling unsatisfying. Fortunately, it supports hot swap, so replacing them with switches that have shorter travel, such as Kailh's Saker series or Shadow Hunting, can greatly improve the feel of operation. With this customization in mind, it becomes a very attractive option.
Another point of concern is the button layout. Haute42 leverless controllers have a rather unusual button layout. It is considerably wider than usual, and people with small hands may find it a little too wide. Also, the extra button on the lower right is positioned somewhat too far up and to the right, making it difficult to press quickly with the thumb, which remains a drawback.
The addition of a button frame has resolved the acrylic edge issue and improved quality, but the key switches and button layout still need improvement.
This was once a product that could be recommended as a top-ranked option, but the situation has changed. The later model from the same manufacturer, “C16,” has dropped in price, and an even higher-performance, lower-priced product called “Kylinix T16” has also appeared. Since models that are superior in both performance and price are now available, there is little reason to choose this one now.
If low weight is your top priority because you carry it frequently, this is a practical option. Otherwise, you are likely to be more satisfied with another model.

FeaturesKey features
- Equipped with Kailh Saker Mini low-travel switches with an actuation point of 0.8mm and an actuation force of 37gf
- A design copied from the Haute42 C16, with an appearance that copies Mad Catz's design; an unethical product
- The magnetic attachment panel can be removed, making it easy to replace with a custom design
- Device settings can be changed on the OLED screen without a PC. However, it is difficult to use unless you understand the settings.
RecommendedReasons to recommend
Honestly, there are few points on which to actively recommend this product. The only point worth praising is that it is equipped with Kailh Saker Mini switches (0.8mm actuation point), but since VSNOVA, which uses higher-performance key switches, is available, this point is also a weak selling point. It is certainly somewhat cheaper, but the price difference is not that large, so buying the C16 it was copied from would be the wiser choice.
CautionPoints to note and other information
This product is a copy of the Haute42 C16. What is more, it does not incorporate the revised placement of the right-hand thumb button from the C16, making it a degraded copy that also copies the flaws of older Haute42 products. It is also described as allowing device settings to be changed on the OLED screen without a PC, but there are no explanations, and the settings are in English, so it is difficult to configure them unless you understand what each setting does. If you are considering this product, we recommend simply buying the Haute42 C16.
Review: A deeply disappointing copycat product; simply choose the Haute42 C16
When you pick up the Guilekeys GM-16, the first thing you notice is how similar it is to the Haute42 C16. Its design is based on the C16, while its appearance seems to incorporate Mad Catz's design. Copycat products like this are not unusual in China, but as more products seek to stand out with their own button layouts and features, it is difficult to give such a direct copy a positive assessment.
The bigger problem is how well the copy was made. The Haute42 C16 revises the button placement that was a flaw in earlier models, moving the right-hand thumb button to a position where it is easier to press. For some reason, however, the GM-16 does not incorporate the C16's improvements and instead copies the poor button layout of an older Haute42 model as is. Also, the C16 is properly covered by a frame, which improves rigidity, while the GM-16 simply has acrylic fitted into a slightly recessed area, a cost-cutting measure. If it were cheaper and equivalent, it could be a viable option, but a degraded copy is a different matter.
The only point worth praising is that it is equipped with Kailh Saker Mini switches (0.8mm actuation point, 1.8mm total travel, 37gf actuation force). These low-travel switches are suited to fast inputs in fighting games. However, VSNOVA, which uses higher-performance key switches, is another option, so there is little reason to choose this product for its switches.
Guilekeys originally offered leverless controllers with a distinctive 22-button layout. Although they are niche, multi-button models have clear demand and were valued as original products. For that reason, it is very disappointing that the company suddenly turned to copycat products with the GM-16.
In conclusion, we recommend that anyone considering the GM-16 simply buy the Haute42 C16. There is a price difference, but given the improved button layout and the reliability of the Haute42 brand, the C16 will be the more satisfying choice.

FeaturesMain features
- Keyboard-style design (for players used to WASD input)
- Compact and lightweight (approx. 306g), making it easy to carry
- Hot-swappable and compatible with MX-compatible key switches
- Stylish appearance with RGB LED and transparent acrylic
RecommendedReasons to recommend
An interesting entry-level option for FPS players and others who are used to WASD controls on a keyboard and want to try a leverless controller. It is very lightweight and compact, making it convenient to carry. MX-compatible hot-swap lets you replace the switches with ones you prefer.
CautionPoints to note and other details
Opinions on the default key switches may vary. However, given its keyboard-style design, changing to switches with shorter travel may make the typing feel awkward as a keyboard. If short travel is your top priority, it may be better to consider another model.
Review: A keyboard-style leverless controller for people used to WASD controls
The Haute42 B16 is an unusual keyboard-style product that stands apart from typical leverless controllers. For players who are used to moving with the WASD keys in PC games such as FPS games, it may be a very interesting way to enter the world of leverless controllers.
The unit is small and lightweight, and its portability is a notable point. The key switches are compatible with MX switches, and hot-swap is also supported. You can enjoy customizing the typing feel to your liking.
However, care is needed when replacing the key switches. It is designed to retain some of the typing feel of a keyboard while being used as a leverless controller, so replacing the switches with ones that have shorter travel can make the operating feel awkward. If response speed or short-travel performance as a leverless controller is your top priority, it would be wiser to choose a model designed specifically for that purpose from the outset.
Although it is a highly distinctive model, it is a product we can recommend to players who want to try a leverless controller with the feel of a keyboard.
