The left and right control areas are positioned apart on a single, integrated body. The structure does not allow the left and right halves of the body to move independently.

It features a tournament lock switch to prevent accidental inputs, an OLED screen for checking settings, and an EXT port for greater expandability. Connecting authentication devices such as MagicBoots to the EXT port also enables play on PS5.
Because it is based on the popular C16, its basic usability, including the stability of the body and how easily you can rest your hands on it, is good. However, like the C16, the included key switches have relatively long travel. If you want faster response or better operability, we strongly recommend replacing them with short-travel key switches.
The split layout, its main feature, is a good attempt at achieving an ideal hand position, but we felt there was room to improve the button layout. The left and right sides are at different heights, which puts the right hand in a slightly higher position, yet the buttons in the bottom row are arranged horizontally. As a result, the buttons operated by the right thumb feel far away. Also, the buttons on both sides have the same angle as those on a standard leverless controller, so the cramped angle of both hands has not been resolved. The impression is that the benefits of the split layout are not being fully realized.
As things stand, the standard-layout C16 may be the more straightforward recommendation for many people.
The “HautePad C16-S” is an ambitious model that carries over the frame structure and high customizability of the highly rated C16 while taking an ergonomic approach with a split layout. Its basic build quality and stability are very high, and you can still enjoy customizing it to your preferences.
At the same time, its defining split button layout may not be ideal for every player. While the standard C16 is a well-rounded option, the C16-S is a controller for players who understand its unique shape and can make it fit their own preferences.
The included key switches are also quiet, but have relatively long travel, so we recommend replacing them if response speed or operability is a priority. If you can accept the layout's challenges, this controller has the potential to create a comfortable play environment unlike any other.
These recommended key switches can help bring out the full potential of this product.
Actuation point 1.2mm, total travel 2.8mm, actuation force 30gf. Very light, with excellent quietness. Its moderate travel also makes accidental inputs less likely, so it is recommended for your first leverless controller.
Actuation point 0.8mm, total travel 2.0mm, actuation force 40gf. A key switch with excellent response speed. Its easy-to-press actuation force gives it a good balance.
Actuation point 0.8mm, total travel 1.8mm, actuation force 37gf. A key switch with short travel and relatively light actuation force. Recommended for people seeking even greater speed.
